Sales for the Powerball Lotto began Thursday, April 16, 1992. The first drawing occurred Wednesday, April 22, 1992.

Drawings are held twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday night at 10:59p.m. (ET). Deadline for on-line orders through I.M.I. is 2:00p.m. (ET) on Wednesday and Friday.

You pick 5 numbers between 1 and 59 plus one additional number between 1 and 39 (PowerBall). This creates overall odds of 1 in 35.11 for winning one of the prizes. Players can win prizes for matching just one number (PowerBall). The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are approximately 1 in 195.2 million.

There are nine ways to win. The Powerball jackpot is parimutuel, that is it depends on the number of dollars wagered and the number of winners. The minimum Powerball jackpot is $20 million. See prize structure for more details and odds. The jackpot winner has
60 days to decide if "cash" or "annuity" option is selected. The advertised jackpot amount
reflects the "annuity" option. The prize is paid over 29 annual payments. If the jackpot winner
chooses to receive one lump sum payment ("cash") the prize will be approximately half the
estimated jackpot, less taxes. Winning Powerball tickets are valid for 180 days. All wins must be collected in the State the ticket was puchased. I.M.I. plays the Powerball Lottery in Florida.
